Fred is a Licensed Psychologist with 23 years treating adolescents, young adults, and families. He works with issues of anxiety, self-harm, depression, personality disorders, technology overuse, acting-out behaviors, and family conflict. He has worked extensively with transgender and gender non-conforming youth, as well as with LGBT+ adolescents, adults, and parents. Fred often works with students for whom other treatment options and settings have failed, or who have complex psychological presentations. .
Fred earned his B.A. from Yale University in music and psychology, followed by a M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Bridgeport. After working in college admissions and counseling, as well as in- and outpatient mental health settings, he went on to earn his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami, with a focus in behavioral medicine and adolescent mental health. Fred has since worked as a wilderness therapist, and in private practice providing therapy and psychological testing. In addition, he has enjoyed speaking at workshops and conferences.
Fred works efficiently and effectively with students, parents, and other professionals to clarify the issues, make lasting changes, and promote well-being. He aims for a balance between useful clinical nsight and compassionate care. He is known and appreciated for his insight, ability to establish rapport, and directedness, combined with humor, understanding, and effective strategies for improving psychological health.
Fred’s professional interests are in working with adolescents and young adults who are struggling with issues of anxiety, depression, social anxiety, acting-out behaviors, and family conflict. He has worked extensively with transgender and gender non-conforming youth, as well as with LGBT+ adolescents, adults, and parents. With a focus on evidence-based treatments, he specializes in mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (MB-CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Growing up in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, Fred has always enjoyed his time outdoors and the healing power of nature. Fred loves to sing and tour with his chorus, is an avid snowboarder and snowboard instructor. He enjoys traveling, camping, scuba diving, and cooking during his spare time.
